Kamikaze Kanoers 2018

 
 

A Girl Scout canoe racing team that practices and competes annually in April & May.  Part of the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, they practice at Camp Addisone Boyce in Tomkins Cove, NY, and race against other Girl Scout teams at the General Clinton Canoe Regatta in Bainbridge, NY on Memorial Day Weekend.


Girls 7th grade through first year of college may join the team.  They don’t need to be a Girl Scout to join, but must become a GS member and join Troop 40096 to participate.


The season begins with an Orientation Mtg. in February or March, for the team members and their parents, 7-9 PM, Felix Festa Middle School


Practice & training is M-W-F at Camp Addisone Boyce 4-6:30 beginning last week in March and continues until the Race Memorial Day Weekend. A river training weekend on the Delaware River will be scheduled in May.


Race weekend begins Friday morning Memorial Day Weekend, on a trip up to Bainbridge, NY, to scout the Unadilla & Susquahanna Rivers.  Camping overnight at Camp Amahami; racing on Sat., and returning home on Sunday to CAB to return the canoes and equipment.


A Kamikaze Family Picnic follows a week later on Sunday, 3-8pm.


The training concludes after the race with the American Red Cross Canoe Certification class called Fundamentals of Canoeing (FOC). The orientation is Wed. after the race and the on water course is Sat. & Sun. 2nd weekend in June.
